Pageturners read biographies at the November meeting. Here is a sample:
This is a biography of writer Dr Samuel Johnson written by James Boswell. The work was a popular and critical success when first published in 1791. It is regarded as an important stage in the development of the modern genre of biography: many have claimed it as the greatest biography written in English.
Pageturner: “Boswell developed the biography genre. He used very dramatic techniques. It is full of anecdotes and paints an image warts and all describing follies and weaknesses, it is powerful.”
