Hello Jasmine
If it is not too late to let you know, I cannot attend Pageturners this evening.
I did read the ‘High Mountains of Portugal’ by Yann Martel.
I would rate it 3/5.
An interesting story of life, grief, struggle and family connections.
Such great loss from disease eg Tuberculosis; accidents / ? suicide eg bridge accident.
Such great love eg Maria and Rafael.
Such amazement to find the Iberian rhinoceros.
Comparison of city vs country living.
Touches on belief system eg theology regarding the chimpanzee crucifix / evolution vs religion
Comparison of Agatha Christie’s – Hercule Poirot and Jesus Christ – rather exteme I thought.
Although,he writes with great imagination, I became frustrated with too many metaphors, how could he write without them?
Enjoy the evening discussion.
Vicki
