Pageturners Discuss Shakespeare

Shakespeare 3

Interesting discussion about Shakespeare at the Pageturners April meeting in time for marking the 400th anniversary of his birth on 23 April. People read plays and sonnets including Macbeth, Othello, King Lear and a youth fiction text version of Romeo and Juliet called YOLO Juliet. Other books included Shakespeare’s plays as stories, Shakespeare’s Claimants about the authorship of Shakespeare’s plays, books designed for students studying the bard, a novel called The Quality of Mercy by Faye Kellerman referring to the quote from the play Merchant of Venice, John Bell on Shakespeare and literary critic George Wilson Knight. We also did a quiz to gauge our knowledge of Shakespeare and knew more than we thought we would. Lots of press articles too about Shakespeare including a discovery of a rare first folio on the Isle of Bute in Scotland. So it all made for a great discussion.

Next month Pageturners meets on Wednesday 11 May at 5.30pm to talk about The High Mountains of Portugual by Yann Martel.
